Project Angel Food
Hollywood, CAEgan | Simon architecture
Project Angel Food started operations on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood in an austere kitchen. In 2004 we partnered with John Egan in the restoration of a movie props building on Vine Street that resulted in a major kitchen that provided a significant increase in food prep capability. In 2024 we partnered with Egan | Simon Architecture to renovate the existing kitchen to triple the cooklines to meet their increased demand serving Los Angeles County. In addition to the kitchen, in 2026 construction will begin on a new Project Angel Food Office Building to capture all the administrative functions.

The Fillmore-Piru Veterans Memorial
Fillmore, CAVector Engineering Group / PK architects
The existing memorial included multiple rooftop package heating and cooling systems with ducting on the roof that had outlasted in service cycle and needed replacement. The goal was to remove the rooftop equipment and ducting and in its place on the roof would be variable refrigerant flow condensing units connected to suspended fan coil units in the spaces. Air distribution would be installed within the spaces rather than outdoors on the roof.

Four Seasons Biltmore Hotel
Santa Barbara, CAFour Season
The project removed multiple steam systems and various duty heat exchangers in the heating plant, converting those systems to gas-fired boilers and water heaters with the intent to create space for a central commercial laundry for the properties under management. The complication was detailing the appropriate points of connections to the multiple systems that leave the plant to serve the property.

Happy Trails for Kids
Acton, CALindsay Elliott / Executive Director
Hellman & Lober was engaged on a renovation project in Acton, California, to convert an adult recovery facility into a year-round campsite for foster children in Los Angeles County. At the time underground improvements were already underway under a design-build contract, and our role was limited to consultancy, overseeing compliance with applicable State and County codes. Advisory services included coordination of underground utilities for water and natural gas distribution, sanitary sewer systems, advanced wastewater treatment facilities, and evaluation of well water for irrigation use.
