We want to kick off this newsletter with good news. There are many challenges in Los Angeles City and County, and while many still talk about the problems and why the homeless population continues to grow, rarely are any successes discussed.
The contract for operating and converting the Sylmar Armory into a bridge housing site was awarded to the LA Family Housing and will consist of shelter and support services to help transition women into permanent housing.
Egan | Simon was the selected architects and Hellman & Lober the Mechanical Engineers. The project consisted of interior improvements that included the upgrading of mechanical systems, installation of automatic fire sprinklers, upgraded HVAC, new windows, and retrofitting of plumbing to ADA standards.
Prior to completion, we had the pleasure to participate in a film created by Strad Films for Egan | Simon architecture as part of their presentation in the Design for Dignity Conference - AIA Los Angeles.
